Francesca Robinson L6 Final Major Project – Saving Southend

Regeneration through desination branding

Throughout the 19th to mid-20th century Britain’s coastal towns thrived. However, with the expansion of international travel the popularity of the British seaside holiday has declined and as a result many towns have suffered. Southend-On-Sea is an example of this; an area with a lot to offer but lacking an identity. It’s a town with a rich history, a mixture of historical/contemporary buildings, and unique attractions, however this range means that it lacks a cohesive visual. I aim to create one during this project, in hope that a successful design can help restore the reputation of Southend and draw visitors back in.
